Cleveland Heights - University Heights (OH) Public Library
Director - Cleveland Heights-University Heights (OH) Public Library. Eastern suburb of Cleveland only minutes away for Case Western Reserve and John Carroll Universities, Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals and University Circle's myriad of renowned museums and educational institutions. Major league sports teams and some of the best restaurants and entertainment venues anywhere.
System consists of Main Library/Arts Center renovated/expanded in 2006, and three neighborhood branches. Member of CLEVNET, the premier automation consortium of 30 libraries that provides access to more resources than any single community can afford to offer. Long-established partnerships with community organizations, local merchant groups and area-wide agencies. Strong outreach programs to schools, day cares and homebound. Coventry Village branch is the regionally-recognized center for library services to the Deaf community.
Ranked 5th in the nation for its size by Hennen, the community supported the library by passing an additional continuing property tax, to begin in 2009, that will provide stable funding for the future. Diverse, involved community offers a wide variety of excellent elementary and secondary options.
The Board of Library Trustees is looking for a visionary, creative leader, who believes and models customer service - and is able to articulate this view - to fill its Director's position, soon to be open due to retirement. Cleveland Heights-University Heights is one of Ohio's best-regarded public library systems. The library has an annual operating budget of $8.5M, with specialized funds for staff development, building repair and technology; 107 FTE dedicated staff; collection of over 400,000 items; and circulation last year of over 1.8 million.
The position requires an MLS from an ALA accredited institution and 7 years of increasingly responsible management experience. Masters in public administration a plus. A demonstrated knowledge of library services, technology, and a clear vision of the library's connection to the community is essential. What can we expect of libraries in the future?
